Dieting is as much of a discipline as any sport or job skill, it takes constant effort and targets to stay on top, and only once you’ve been going for a while does it become easier and more enjoyable. Therefore, especially in the early stages of dieting you’ve got to make sure that you set yourself short term goals to keep yourself positive. These can be in terms of weight loss goals per week, perhaps a kilogram each seven days or in terms of calorie values for a week and a set number of exercise. When you achieve these goals you’ll feel a real set of relief and pride in what you have achieved and you can perhaps even give yourself a little treat to celebrate!

But, controlling what you eat is never fun and this can make dieting seem rather dull and difficult to keep up over time. Therefore, any other way to help break the monotony and continue to lose weight is worth it and a great way to keep on top of your diet and this is where exercise comes in. By increasing the amount of energy your body needs week on week you can eat more and still lose weight, or alternatively and eat the same and just lose more weight quicker! Exercising is also a great way to diet socially by becoming a part of an active gym and visiting different classes and meeting people can help keep your spirits up whilst trying to lose weight! So, don’t be afraid of the gym, get down there and start making your dieting more fun and easier!

Finally, when you do have to start looking more closely at what you eat remember that eating the right stuff is far more important than just eating to become thin or to lose weight and therefore any diet has to be built around eating well first and losing weight second. This will ensure that whilst you diet you are not depriving your body of the vitamins and other core things it needs to survive, maintain and develop.

So, remember to set yourself goals and approach dieting from both the view of taking more exercise and also from watching what you eat, not too much in terms of amount but more in terms of quality and type of foods!
